New Scotland Yard, the Metropolitan Police headquarters (Kirsty O’Connor/PA) (PA Wire) A serving Metropolitan Police[1] officer has been remanded in custody charged with raping a man in north London. Off-duty PC Andrej Sagaidak – still working in his probation period in a south east policing team – was arrested after the alleged offence at a home in Islington[2] on Monday.

Sagaidak appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday accused of two counts of rape, non-fatal strangulation and causing actual bodily harm. He will remain on remand before reappearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court[3] on Friday, February 2. Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in Bexley, Greenwich[4] and Lewisham[5], said: “This is a deeply concerning allegation and I know it will cause significant concern.

“We took immediate action when we received the report and the officer was suspended from duty following his arrest on Thursday.” Scotland Yard said: “An investigation was launched after we received a report that a man had been raped by another man. “We continue to provide support to the victim and the investigation is ongoing.”

A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
