Somerset left stunned by two tragic incidents just days apart
Residents in North East Somerset have been struck by two tragedies after a man was found dead and two young men were stabbed in two separate incidents in the county. Emergency services were called to both Stoke St Michael – where a man in his 60s was found dead[1] – and Bath – where two people were rushed to hospital after being stabbed[2]. The two incidents are unconnected, but took place within days of each other.
Both tragedies are still being investigated by Avon and Somerset Police. A 17-year-old boy has been arrested[3] and remains in police custody after two men were stabbed in Bath on January 14. SomersetLive previously reported an 18-year-old man suffered potentially life-changing injuries to his chest and leg[4], while a 20-year-old man sustained injuries to his face and arm.
Detective Inspector Hannah Marsh said: “We’ve already identified a number of people we’re interested in speaking to about this incident, but we’re also keen on hearing from anyone who witnessed it or who has information which could help us. “Incidents such as this remain uncommon in Bath but we appreciate what happened will cause people alarm and the sight of the large cordon will prompt questions from local residents. “There will be a highly visible police presence in the area while we carry out inquiries and neighbourhood officers will continue to patrol the area once these have been completed to provide reassurance to the community.
Should you have any questions or concerns please approach an officer.” It comes days after a man was found dead at a property in the nearby village of Stoke St Michael. On Thursday, January 11, Avon and Somerset Police were called about an emergency incident at a property on Moonshill Road, Stoke St Michael.
On arriving at the scene, officers found a man in his 60s, who was confirmed deceased. His death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious, Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement. A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police has said: “We were called to a property in Moonshill Road, in Stoke St Michael, Bath, at around 5pm on Thursday, January 11.
“Sadly, a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time.
“At this stage, we do not believe the death is suspicious. We are asking people not to speculate about the circumstances of the incident while the investigation continues.” Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, Avon and Somerset Police has said.
