Stretch of M25 near Wisley to close as footbridge erected
A stretch of the M25 will be closed overnight on two weekends to allow a new footbridge to be erected in Surrey. The first closure will be between Junctions 9 (Leatherhead) and 10 (Wisley) on the evening of 13-14 January going clockwise. The motorway will also be shut anti-clockwise on 27-28 January.
Jonathan Wade, National Highways senior project manager, said: “We’re keen to make sure that our scheme benefits the local community.” Due to the size of the footbridge, the work needs to be undertaken across two weekends. Some slip roads will also be affected.
The footbridge is part of a GBP317m upgrade to Junction 10. Mr Wade described the scheme as “vital” to help the 300,000 drivers a day who use the junction and also to local communities. The new structure will improve links for between Chatley Wood and Ockham Common.
Mr Wade said: “This new footbridge will make crossing the M25 much safer and easier for pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders.” The A3 is scheduled to remain open throughout all the closures, but diversions will be put in place. Follow BBC South East on Facebook, on X, and on Instagram.
