Teen boy killed in police M4 motorway chase after car smashes into barrier
A teenage boy has been killed in a crash during a police chase[1] on the M4. Officers were pursuing a Vauxhall Astra after it failed to stop on the eastbound carriageway in Swindon on Tuesday. The car left the motorway at the Junction 15 slip-road, before smashing into a barrier on the roundabout ahead.
A teenage boy was pronounced dead at the scene and three others in the vehicle sustained minor injuries. With the support of a police helicopter, a man, aged in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Two women, aged in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and all three suspects remain in custody for questioning. Wiltshire Police[2] has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which has confirmed it declared an independent investigation at around 5am.
