Teenager arrested after police chase sees car collide with fence as residents recall ‘sea of blue lights’
A man has been arrested after a police chase saw a car collide with a fence and end up on the drive of a Thornaby home. A vehicle reportedly failed to stop for officers[1] on Thornaby Road, shortly before midnight on Thursday, prompting a police chase. Shortly after, the car collided with a fence on Pacific Drive – with images from the scene showing a silver vehicle across the drive of a property and a police car stationed nearby.
Several people fled the scene of the crash[2] – but one teenager, aged 19, was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, careless driving, and possession of a Class B drug. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large police presence on the residential street following the incident. One nearby resident, who wished to remain nameless, said: “‘I had just gone to bed and heard a loud bang.
“I looked out of the window and a car had crashed into a garden and the street was a sea of blue lights. There were around eight police vehicles in the street and the police dog. It’s getting worse around here.”
A Cleveland Police[5] spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested following a pursuit in Thornaby[6] shortly before midnight on Thursday evening (January 4). A vehicle reportedly failed to stop for police on Thornaby Road and a short time later the vehicle collided with a fence on Pacific Drive. “Several people made off from the vehicle and with the help of police dog Moose, one man was arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, careless driving and possession of a Class B drug. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.”
