Thamesmead man charged after New Year’s Day car chase on A2
At 2.30pm on Monday January 1, 2024, a car suspected to be stolen allegedly tried to flee from police before being stopped on the London-bound A2 Watling Street, near the junction with Wrotham Road. Several other vehicles were damaged as the car attempted to pass traffic and the carriageway was closed while police dealt with the incident. Three men were arrested, and no serious injuries were reported.
Officers have since charged Kieron Gallagher with handling stolen goods, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving while disqualified. The 22-year-old, of Pitfield Crescent, Thamesmead, is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday). The two other men arrested have been released without charge.
A spokesperson for Kent Police said: “A man has been charged with multiple offences following an incident on the A2 near Gravesend. “At around 2.30pm on Monday 1 January 2024, a vehicle suspected to be stolen attempted to make off from officers before being stopped on the London-bound A2 Watling Street, near the junction with Wrotham Road. “A number of other vehicles were damaged as the car attempted to pass traffic and the carriageway was closed while the incident was responded to.
“Three men were arrested, and no serious injuries were reported. “Officers have since charged Kieron Gallagher with handling stolen goods, dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving while disqualified. “The 22-year-old, of Pitfield Crescent, Thamesmead, is due to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 January.
“The two other men arrested have been released without charge.”
