Three people in hospital after multi-car crash on M57

Three people have been taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash. The M57 northbound was closed after an incident involving four vehicles[1] at around 9.10am on Monday, January 15. All emergency services including Merseyside fire and rescue service attended between J3 A526 Seth Powell Way (Stockbridge Village) to J4 A580 Moorgate Road (Knowsley[2]).

Paramedics assessed all involved at the scene and three people were taken to hospital[3]. A spokesperson for North West Ambulance service said they are not believed to be seriously injured.

At one point, traffic was at a standstill for more than an hour[6] and there were delays of more than 50 minutes above average journey time on the motorway.

Traffic also built southbound while drivers slowed to look in the opposite direction. A spokesperson for Merseyside fire and rescue service said: “Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service attended an incident this morning on the M57 northbound, between junction 3 and junction 4. Crews were alerted at 9.11am and two fire engines and the search and rescue team were on scene shortly after.

“Crews arrived to find four vehicles involved in a road traffic collision (RTC), all of which were on all four wheels.

Paramedics from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) assessed all occupants of the vehicles and a number of them were conveyed to hospital for further checks.

Crews worked to make the scene safe before leaving at 10am.”
