Truck crashes into police cruiser, causing two other crashes, significant traffic in New Hampshire

MERRIMACK, NH (WGME) — A pickup truck in New Hampshire struck a parked police cruiser in the breakdown lane with an officer and K-9 inside Thursday. Early Thursday morning, authorities received a report of a single motor vehicle crash on the Everett Turnpike. A state trooper had parked his cruiser in the breakdown lane, and he was struck from behind by a pickup truck.

The trooper and his K-9 partner were both in the cruiser when it was struck and were uninjured. The driver of the pickup truck, a 39-year-old from Chester, New Hampshire, was also uninjured. The collision caused an approximate 5 mile backup through the Bedford Tolls, which resulted in two other crashes on the turnpike.

The right lane was closed for about an hour to be cleaned.

The crash is still under investigation, and New Hampshire State Police asks any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them.
