Two taken to hospital after car ‘rolled over’ in Northumberland on New Year’s morning
Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A696 in Northumberland[1] during the early hours of New Year’s Day. Emergency services were called to a stretch of the road, which connects Ponteland and Otterburn, after a car “rolled over” at around 5:30am on Monday, January 1. The road was closed from Silver Hill in Capheaton to the turn-off for the B6309 to the north west of Belsay village.
The road remained closed for around five hours as police recovered the vehicle and cleared the road. Both occupants of the car were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary. A spokesperson from the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 5:32am this morning to a road traffic incident on a road near Silver Hill in Capheaton in which a car had rolled over.
“We sent two emergency ambulances to the scene, along with a clinical team leader and three hazardous area response teams. Two patients were taken to RVI, one with minor injuries and a second who was pre alerted to hospital with a head injury.” ChronicleLive also contacted Northumbria Police[2] for comment.
