Warning after illegal parking on new Trowbridge pavements
A warning has been issued to drivers after a council said lorries were spotted parked on pavements which had just been made safer for pedestrians. A Wiltshire councillor said vehicles were seen on the new pavements on Castle Street in Trowbridge. The pavements had been widened to improve safety in 2023.
Councillor Caroline Thomas said fines would be issued to drivers parked illegally. The cabinet member for transport said: "Our civil enforcement officers will regularly patrol around Trowbridge, including Castle Street, if any vehicles are seen parking behind a yellow line restriction a penalty charge notice would be issued. "Wiltshire Police are also able to issue fixed penalty notices if vehicles are seen to be causing an obstruction."
The roadworks formed part of a GBP16m package of town centre improvements. Wiltshire Council said further works to improve the zebra crossing outside the Shires would be completed during evenings from 4 January. The council hopes the finished works will enhance Castle Street and improve access in and around the town centre.
