Weather maps show exact date snow will arrive in Yorkshire

It has already been a chilly start to the year[1] in Yorkshire as the UK is in the midst of a prolonged cold weather period with increased chances of snow[2] and ice. Yellow and Amber cold weather alerts are in place for large parts of the country until Friday, January 12, with Yorkshire facing a yellow warning[3] and the North West issued with an Amber warning. The amber alert means “cold weather impacts are likely to be felt across the whole health service for an extended period of time”.

The warnings come as a cold snap is expected to hit the UK throughout mid January and into February, with temperatures expected to be colder than usual for this time of year. And according to the Met Office’s long range forecast, the UK can expect ‘significant snowfall’ between January 11 and January 20. In Yorkshire, snow could begin to settle as soon as Tuesday January 16, weather maps from WXCharts[5] are predicting.

The Met Office[6] has said that there is the potential for ‘widespread snow’ around this period, as we enter late January. In a statement they said: “Through this period, compared to normal, there is an increased chance of colder conditions along with the associated impacts from low temperatures, ice and snow. “Whilst colder weather is more likely to dominate, there is also the possibility of frontal systems at least encroaching from the west or southwest, bringing the potential for more widespread snow to parts of the UK as they butt up against cold air in place.

These would also increase the likelihood of wetter conditions, at least in the south, at least compared to the preceding week or two.” “High pressure will remain in charge through the first part of this period, whilst sitting to the north or northwest of the UK. This means a fair amount of dry weather for the majority of the country, with variable clouds and some sunny spells.

Still the chance of a few showers, perhaps wintry at first, feeding into some eastern coasts.”
