Yesterday (January 4) at 7.20pm, a car failed to stop for police when requested to do. A next door neighbour says everyone nearby immediately went to check on the people who were inside the home.

"I was in the kitchen washing up at the time," she explained. "Then there was a loud bang.

"When we heard it we all jumped up to the windows to see what was going on. "It was horrendous. A lot of people came out and my partner went to check to see if the family were okay."

After the crash the road was closed for around four hours.

A woman in her 20s from Maidstone was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and driving without insurance. The resident added: "We spoke to the officers and they said it was a police chase and it looked like the car had spun out.

"There's quite a lot of damage to the outside and inside of the house. "The front door has been pushed in."

"It was horrendous. A lot of people came out and my partner went to check to see if the family were okay." No injuries were reported following the collision.

The property that was hit is managed by housing association The Hyde Group. A spokeswoman for the company said: "A car incident last night damaged two of our customers' homes.

"We immediately attended to check on both households, as this was clearly a distressing experience. "We helped to make the homes secure, and worked with the police and local council.

"After checking both homes, both households were moved into alternative accommodation as we were worried about structural damage."

She added: "Our structural engineers visited the homes first thing this morning.

"One customer remains in alternative accommodation, and we will continue to work closely with them until their home is ready for them to move back into.

"In the meantime, we will stay in touch with them to give them the support they need."
