Woman in her 20s dies after falling from a moving Ford Transit van

Homicide detectives have launched a probe after a young woman died falling from a moving van.

The woman, in her 20s, was seen to fall from a white Ford Transit travelling on Denby Dale Road in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Despite medical treatment, she died at the roadside last night.

The male driver of the van was today being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was also arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

West Yorkshire Police[2] are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage over the incident, which took place between 8.20pm and 8.45pm near to the junction with Hollin Lane.

Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: ‘We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries into this incident in which a woman has lost her life.

‘A man remains in custody today after being arrested in relation to the incident and I am appealing for witnesses and anyone with mobile phone or CCTV footage which captured what occurred to contact us.

‘We would like to speak to anyone in the area of the Denby Dale Road and Hollin Lane between 8.20 and 8.40pm who saw or has footage of the incident or who saw the white Transit van just prior to the incident.

‘Anyone who can assist enquiries is asked to contact 101 referencing police log 1604 of January 17.’

More than 30 emergency service workers converged on the scene, in the Calder Grove area of Wakefield, including paramedics.

A police forensic tent could be seen erected in the road where the woman died.

Denby Dale Road, which has a 40mph speed limit, remained closed to traffic this morning as police officers and forensics teams searched for clues.

The suspect remains in police custody.

Buses have been diverted.
