Worcester floods 2024: ‘careless’ bus driver fined
The bus got stuck in flood water in Shrawley near Worcester at around 12.30pm on Friday (January 5) which meant seven passengers had to be rescued by the fire service. We can now reveal that the bus driver has been issued with a fixed penalty notice for careless driving as a result of the incident. Nobody was hurt in the incident which was attended by both Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and West Mercia Police.

At the time flood warnings were in place along the River Severn following two successive storms over Christmas and New Year brought heavy rainfall – Storm Gerrit on December 27 and Storm Henk on January 2. A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – one each from Droitwich and Wyre Forest Fire Stations – plus the boat crew from Worcester Fire Station was called at 12.28pm on January 5 to a vehicle in water in Shrawley. Crews rescued seven passengers from a bus using a water rescue vehicle and the incident was left with police who were also in attendance.
The incident was marked as closed at 1.28pm.”
Flood warnings[3], issued by the Environment Agency, are still in force (on Monday, January 8) on the River Severn including at Pitchcroft in Worcester, South Worcester (Diglis), Kempsey, Callow End, Hanley Road in Upton, Hanley Castle, Tewkesbury and Bewdley.
