Critically injured driver airlifted to hospital after Somerset crash

A driver has been airlifted to hospital after a serious collision in west Somerset. Emergency services are still at the scene[1] of a crash involving a Range Rover and a lorry on the A358 at Hatch Beauchamp, between Ilminster and Taunton.

The black Range Rover and a white DAF lorry were travelling in opposite directions on the road between Bickenhall Lane and Griffin Lane when they collided, Avon and Somerset Police[2] said in a statement. The crash tool place shortly before 3.50pm today, Wednesday, February 14.

The driver of the car was gravely injured and their next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers. The lorry driver was also taken to hospital, by land ambulance, with injuries not currently though to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Avon and Somerset Police say the A358 is expected to remain closed between the A303 and A378 while investigations are undertaken at the scene and the vehicles involved are recovered. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area.

The force is also appealing for information from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened, or may have dashcam footage. If you can help, please call 101[5] and give the call handler the reference number 5224039756, or complete the online appeals form[6].
