Driver airlifted after Somerset crash between car and lorry

Police urged motorists to avoid the area of the crash

A driver has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash involving a car and a lorry.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the A358 at Hatch Beauchamp in Somerset just before 15:50 GMT.

Avon and Somerset Police said a black Range Rover and a white DAF lorry travelling in opposite directions collided.

The road was closed between Bickenhall Lane and Griffin Lane.

A police spokesperson said the driver of the car suffered injuries described as life-threatening and their next of kin was being supported.

The lorry driver was also taken hospital with less serious injuries.
