Duke art history professor Hans Joris Van Miegroet dies in car crash

A Duke University art history professor died a car crash Friday evening. Durham Police responded to a single-vehicle crash around 6:30 pm on Academy Road near Duke University Drive. The driver, identified as Hans Joris Van Miegroet, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Miegroet was a Professor of Art and Art History at Duke University.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Academy Road between Duke University Road and Cranford Street was closed for several hours as police conducted their initial investigation.
