Exact times M5 will be closed today

Drivers planning to use the M5 this weekend have been warned of overnight closures which are expected to cause long delays in Somerset. The road will be closed for several hours in two areas while emergency repairs are carried out.

The first set of works is taking place on the southbound carriageway between junction 24 and 25 near Taunton. This is due to a defect which has been identified on the southbound carriageway of the junction 25 bridge deck.

The works began last night, with a single lane closure and a temporary speed restriction in lanes 2 and 3. Resurfacing work will begin at 8pm tonight (February 17) and the road will be closed until 6am on Sunday (February 18).

A diversion has been put in place, which will take motorists off the M5 at junction 24 onto the A38 until they can rejoin again at junction 25. Nonetheless, National Highways has warned there could still be delays and has advised people to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

The other closure will be on the northbound carriage from junction 21 to junction 20 near Weston-super-Mare. This is due to carriageway repairs taking place.

All lanes will be closed starting from 9pm tonight until 6am tomorrow morning. Drivers will be diverted along the A370 until they can rejoin the M5 at junction 18.
