Live: M5 closed after serious HGV crash

The M5 in Somerset has been closed after a serious crash tonight (February 15). The collision, which involves an HGV, has left the motorway closed in the Bristol-bound direction between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon.

Lane three southbound has also been closed as a result of the collision. Emergency services are in attendance, National Highways has said. Motorists have been warned to expect delays in the area and plan ahead for heading out on the road.

In a post on social media, National Highways said: “The #M5 is CLOSED northbound between the J21 #WestonsuperMare and J20 #Clevedon due to a serious collision involving a HGV. Lane 3 (of 3) is also closed southbound. Emergency services are in attendance. Please plan ahead and expect delays #Somerset.”

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: “All traffic being temporarily held due to accident on M5 northbound from J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare) to J20 B3133 Ettlingen Way (Clevedon).”
