M4 closed after serious multi-vehicle crash near Bristol

There has been a serious multi-vehicle crash on the M4 near Bristol[1] this afternoon (February 10). The motorway is closed heading westbound between junction 19 and junction 20. The crash was first reported by traffic monitoring site Inrix at 1.15pm.

All traffic was initially held on the westbound carriageway before a full closure was put in place. Officers from Avon and Somerset Police[2] were called to the scene. A live traffic map from the AA shows long tailbacks as a result of the closure.

National Highways: South West said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter[5] ): “The #M4 in #Gloucestershire is closed westbound between J19 (#M32/ near #Bristol) and J20 (#M5/ near #Almondsbury) due to a serious collision.@ASPolice are in attendance. “

The latest log from Inrix says: “M4 Westbound closed, stationary traffic due to serious multi-vehicle accident from J19 M32 (Bristol) to J20 M5 J15 (Almondsbury Interchange).”
