M6 closed near Coventry after crash involving young family and HGV
A family had a lucky escape following a crash with a HGV which closed part of M6 near Coventry[1] last night. Police, firefighters and the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) raced to the M6[2] between junction two and three northbound at just before 8.45pm night (February 20).
It followed reports of a collision between a car and a HGV. Police closed off part of the motorway stretch while firefighters accessed the scene.
A spokesperson for Green watch at Nuneaton[3] Fire Station that a family, with two young children aged under four, were in the car. "Fortunately they were out of the vehicle when we arrived at the scene," the spokesperson said.
"They were being assessed on an ambulance when we left the scene, they were not believed to be seriously injured." The stretch of the motorway remained closed for almost two hours.
It led to three miles of tailbacks before it was re-opened by National Highways West Midlands officers at just after 10.10pm. CoventryLive has contacted West Midlands Ambulance Service about the incident.
