Man, 24, admits murdering wife, 19, after knifing her in neck
Croydon knife killer Shahil Sharma and his late wife Mehak (Met Police) A man has pleaded guilty to murdering his 19-year-old wife in a horrific knife attack in Croydon[1]. Sahil Sharma, 24, admitted the fatal stabbing of Mehak Sharma before Kingston Crown Court[2] on Thursday.
Sharma, of Ash Tree Way, Croydon, phoned the police[3] to say what he had done moments after he inflicted catastrophic knife injuries to her neck on October 29. Medics rushed to the scene but she was pronounced dead around 20 minutes after his call, at around 4.15pm. A post-mortem later found she had died from stab wounds.
Detective Inspector Laura Semple said: “Sahil Sharma’s actions have devastated a family. In killing his wife he has robbed her family of a loving daughter for reasons known only to himself. “While I am pleased that Mehak Sharma’s loved ones will now be spared the experience of going through a trial, nothing can bring her back to them.”
She added that Mehak’s family were informed and they continue to be supported by specialist officers. Sharma is due to be sentenced at the same court on April 26. He is said to have called 999 and told operators he had “killed his wife” shortly after he stabbed her.
DI Semple said: “Mehak was killed in her own home, the place where she should have been safest, by the person who should have loved and protected her. My thoughts today are with her family and loved ones.” She added: “If you’re a victim of domestic abuse, or know someone who is, and there’s an emergency that’s ongoing or life is in danger, call 999 now.”
