Man taken to hospital after 3-vehicle crash in Birstall

A man was taken to hospital after a three-vehicle crash that caused long delays on the A6 in Birstall[1] yesterday evening. The crash, at about 6pm, happened between the Greengate Lane junction and the Park and Ride in Birstall.

It involved a car, a van and one hybrid vehicle. The police[2] closed the road and Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service[3] also sent crews to the scene of the crash.

The fire service said the occupants of all three vehicles had got out by the time they arrived but that one man was taken to hospital by the ambulance service. It is not clear how serious his injuries were.

Leicester’s Area Traffic Control shared a Google Maps traffic image on X, which showed queuing traffic in both directions on the A6 following the closure.

The fire service report stated the fire crews, from the nearby station in Birstall and the Western Station in New Parks, made sure the three vehicles were safe to be removed by recovery teams and then left the scene at about 6.45pm.
