Morrisons, Illogan van goes through store wall woman trapped
A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without due care and attention pending further investigation.
Initial reports said that a woman had become trapped under rubble after the van crashed through the wall of the Morrisons Daily store in Robartes Terrace, Illogan.
When police arrived at the scene at around 5.45pm the woman was checked over and was found to have sustained a minor injury.
One man said his mother had been behind the till when the van crashed through the wall.
Eyewitnesses reported that the van struck a number of other vehicles parked in the road before smashing through the store wall.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage that will help with their investigation to come forward.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said that two other vehicles were hit by the van prior to it crashing through theĀ Morrison’s store wall causing it to collapse.
“Police were called at 5.45pm on 12 February to a report of a collision on Robartes Terrace in Illogan,” they said.
“It was reported that a vehicle had collided with two cars before colliding with a building, causing a wall to collapse.
Further information suggested a pedestrian had become trapped under the wall. She was checked at the scene and had sustained a minor injury.
“A man in his 50s from Redruth was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and driving whilst under the influence of alcohol. He has been released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have relevant dash cam footage is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting log 578 of 12 February.”
