Oldbury crash sees two taken to hospital with ‘potentially serious injuries’

Firefighters had to free two people from the wreckage of a two-car smash in Oldbury. A man and a woman were both taken to hospital following the smash.

The collision happened on Wolverhampton Road, at the junction with Joseph Street, on Sunday, February 11. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2.15pm.

The two casualties were taken to Sandwell[1] and Walsall[2] Manor Hospitals. Medics said they were both treated for “potentially serious injuries”.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.15pm on Sunday, February 11, we attended Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury. Fire engines from Oldbury, Haden Cross and Smethwick[4] responded, the first arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.

“This was a collision between two cars on the road. Firefighters used cutting equipment to free a man from one vehicle and a woman from the other. It is believed both casualties were conveyed to hospital.

“We handed the incident over to police colleagues and highways. Firefighters left the scene at 4.04pm.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] spokesperson added: “Two of our ambulances came across a two-car road traffic collision at the junction of Wolverhampton Road and Joseph Street at 2.10pm yesterday. There were two patients, a man and a woman, both of whom were treated for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Sandwell and Walsall Manor Hospitals respectively.”
