Police issue hundreds in fines for ‘overweight’ Bury truck
Last week, the force ordered the driver of a truck, which was spotted on the M66, to stop.
Police directed the vehicle to a weigh bridge in Bury and it was discovered that it was 5,520 kg gross weight – more than 57 per cent overweight.
The driver, who GMP has not named, has received £600 in fines.
Stopped in Bury and came in at 5 1/2t gross 3.5 on the rear as carrying headstones. Further checks by #CVU resulted in a prohibition for an illegal tyre, and bodywork likely to cause danger. Further checks by officers reportedly found the front tyre on the truck was also worn, showing the cords inside the tyre’s inner liner, with both of the truck’s front wings said to have sharp edges.
Officers issued a prohibition on the vehicle being used until a new tyre was fitted, both wings were repaired, and a new MOT obtained.
The driver was issued a traffic offence report for the illegal tyre, GMP said.
