Van driver in Royal Stoke with ‘potentially serious injuries’ after A500 pile-up
A driver has been taken to Stoke-on-Trent’s main hospital with ‘potentially serious injuries’ after a three-vehicle A500 pile-up. Staffordshire Police[1], Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[2] and West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] were called to the collision earlier today.
Emergency services discovered two vans and a pick-up truck had been involved in the collision on the northbound carriageway near Talke roundabout. The alarm had been first raised at 8.05am today.
A police spokesman said: “We went to the A500 northbound following reports of a collision involving a van, a Ford Transit van, and a pick-up truck. A man, in his 30s, suffered a leg injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are neither life-threatening nor life-changing. The drivers of the pick-up truck and the other van stayed at the scene to help with enquiries.”
An air ambulance landed in an adjacent field as part of the emergency response to this morning’s collision.
An ambulance service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A500 northbound. An ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands air ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.
“One of the drivers, a man, was cut free from his vehicle with the assistance of fire colleagues before being assessed by ambulance staff. He was treated for potentially serious injuries and taken via land ambulance to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[4] for further checks.”
Any witnesses can call the police on 101.
