Woman, 38, arrested as police probe fatal collision on busy road

Police have arrested a woman after a fatal collision between a BMW and a pedestrian. Now officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following the incident on Crewe’s[1] Nantwich Road after a 61-year-old man died in hospital. Cheshire Police[2] say ‘officers on patrol’ came across the collision on the route just before 10.10am yesterday (February 9) with the road subsequently being shut between Broughton Lane and Manor Way.

It had involved a green BMW and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 61-year-old man, was taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ and later passed away. As part of the investigation into the crash a 38-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was in custody yesterday.

Today officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and are keen to hear from anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage. Sergeant Andrew Dennison said : “This incident occurred on a busy stretch of road during the day so we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed what happened. “The same goes for anyone with any dashcam or CCTV footage which may aid our investigation.”

Witnesses should call Cheshire Police on 101 and quote IML 1753054. Want more court and crime news? Sign up to our court and crime newsletter here[3]
