A1 Colsterworth crash: Police issue update on serious HGV crash as road remains closed
Lincolnshire Police[1] has issued an update on a serious crash which took place on a major Lincolnshire road. Emergency services were called to the A1 at Colsterworth on Monday, March 18 following a crash between two HGVs.
The incident, which was first reported just before 7am, has caused lengthy delays throughout the day and led to a road closure in both directions from Harlaxton to Stamford[2]. Pictures from the scene show a large HGV on its side across the central reservation and blocking both sides of the road.
Police have now confirmed that nobody was seriously injured after the crash. At 11.11am, a spokesperson for the force said: "Both carriageways of the A1 at Colsterworth will remain closed for several hours while recovery and repair work takes place.
"Thankfully no serious injuries have been reported following a collision involving two HGVs just before 6.45am today." A diversion route is in place for motorists affected by the crash which is causing delays of up to 40 minutes at the time of writing.
A spokesperson for National Highways said: "The A1 in Lincolnshire is closed in both directions between the A607 (Harlaxton) and A606 (Stamford) due to a collision involving at least 2 lorries. Emergency services including Lincolnshire Police are in attendance.
"One lorry has overturned and has come to rest on its side on both sides of the carriageway. The other lorry has left the road and is down the verge at the side of the carriageway. The road is expected to remain closed for several hours whilst the vehicles are recovered."
