We expect road closures to remain in place for a long period of time while emergency services conduct their work. Please avoid the area and plan alternative routes if possible."
Motorists should find alternative routes through the west of Barnsley. Those travelling north along Higham Common Road are advised to use routes through Pogmoor and Gawber instead, to reach A635 by the Whaley Road roundabout. South Yorkshire Constabulary say roads will be closed for some time yet.
