BMW driver ‘very, very lucky’ to be alive after horror crash

A BMW driver was “very, very lucky” to be alive following a horror crash.

Police were called to the M57[1] on Friday, March 8 at around 10.30am to reports of a crash. When officers arrived at the scene they found a van on the northbound carriageway had lost its wheel.

The wheel then landed on the roof of a maroon BMW, causing it to collapse. Pictures of the scene, shared by North West Motorway Police, showed the car with severe damage, including a completely shattered windscreen and the roof crushed.

North West Motorway Police said the people inside the van “made off” and the BMW driver was “very, very lucky”.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with an RTC on the M57, the van is on the northbound carriageway lost it’s wheel and occupants made off. “A very, very lucky BMW driver on the southbound carriageway now suffering shock after his vehicle was hit by the wheel. Van removed as may be stolen.”

Many people said how lucky the BMW driver was following the crash. One person said on Facebook[4]: “Wow so glad the BMW driver is luckily unharmed. Hope they aren’t too shaken up.”

Another added: “Absolutely shocking, I do hope full resources will be used to locate the driver of the van helicopter or drone should have been used straight away.”

A third person said: “Omg. That’s one very lucky driver of the BMW thank god they’re OK. Looks like a scene off final destination.”

Other people said the driver should put the lottery on this weekend after escaping the horrific ordeal.
