Boy, nine, is killed after car crash with van and cattle truck – as woman in her 30s known to the child is arrested on suspicion of murder

A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a nine-year-old boy was killed in a car crash with a van and a cattle truck. 

The suspect and the youngster were travelling in a Citroen DS9 when it collided with a Ford Transit van and a DAF cattle transporter truck and trailer on a country road.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene on the A354 at East Woodyates, near Blandford, Dorset.

The woman, who is aged in her 30s and was known to the boy, was arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident at 5.21am on Monday.

She was taken to hospital for minor injuries she suffered in the crash before being released into police custody.

Dorset Police confirmed that she remains in custody today.

Both the woman and the boy are from the Hampshire area.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: ‘First and foremost, our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young boy during this very difficult time.

‘A number of initial lines of enquiry have been carried out and detectives are now undertaking an investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

‘I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage, to please come forward.

‘Also, I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the manner of driving of any of the vehicles involved prior to the incident.

‘A detailed scene examination was carried out overnight and I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during the road closure.’
