Drink-driving arrest after double rush-hour collision on M4
A person was arrested for drink driving after a crash on the M4 this morning[1], Wednesday, March 27. Police said two crashes took place back-to-back on the eastbound carriageway.
Officers were called at around 8am after a car crashed[2] into the central reservation between junction 17 and junction 16. After the collision was resolved, a second crash took place at the same location.
One of the drivers involved was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. They were taken to custody in Swindon.
Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to the M4 between junction 17 and 16 eastbound shortly after 8am this morning after a car collided with the central reservation. This incident was quickly resolved, however, shortly after this, a second collision took place – one of the drivers involved in this incident was arrested for drink driving and taken to custody in Swindon.”
All traffic was stopped on the M4 heading eastbound following the crash. The motorway has since fully reopened.
