Driver who taunted speed camera with sign saying ‘No photographs please’ as he flicked V-sign is ordered to do

  • The motorist made the protest while driving on the  A458 in Morville, Shropshire
  • Roads policing officers have now taken action after capturing him on camera

A driver who taunted a speed camera with a sign saying 'No photographs please' while flicking a V-sign has been ordered on to a road safety course.

The motorist was caught making the protest while driving a red Nissan Qashqai in Shropshire - holding the homemade sign in front of their face while at the wheel.

The message read in full: 'No photographs please. You will have to speak to my agent first. Thank you.'

The driver, who was not speeding, held the steering wheel and the sign with one hand and made a V-sign with his other.

West Mercia Police have shared images of the offence on X, formerly Twitter[2], and revealed he was penalised for obscuring the windscreen.

The force's roads policing team caught the man on camera as she drove along the A458 in Morville, near Bridgnorth, in January.

Officers posted yesterday on X: 'This motorist decided to make their feelings known as they drove past a speed camera in Shropshire recently.

'By doing so, they committed an offence of not being in a position to have full view of the road.

'The "What's Driving Us" course they had to attend as a result of this offence aims to give attendees an insight into driver behaviour and the importance of driving with consideration towards other road users.'

Fees for the course vary across the country but in West Mercia drivers taking part are charged £88 and avoid penalty points if they complete it.

After sharing pictures of the driver on social media, online users were quick to criticise this motorist for his behaviour.

Writing on Facebook, one said: 'What a n**, seems these people who think they are above the law seem to be on the increase.'

Other comments included 'What a numpty', 'The world is full of them' and 'Bet he lists "Auditor as his job'.

One said: 'Driving without due care and attention would have been a more appropriate charge, along with not being in control of his vehicle. Idiot.'

Another commenter wrote: 'And he's got a licence??? What an absolute prat.'

Earlier this month, a man in Sydney who gloated about blocking a mobile speed camera faced criticism[3].

The motorist shared a photo of his car parked behind the unmarked vehicle housing the mobile speed camera to social media - believing this would block the camera from accurately capturing the speeds of other drivers.

But critics hit back, saying he wasn't hindering the camera's line of sight and that he should instead 'get a hobby'.

Meanwhile, apparent speed camera vigilantes have been cutting down devices between Heston and Falmouth in Cornwall[4] - with suggestions the culprits are copying ULEZ 'blade runners' in London[5].

Elsewhere, a farmer in Essex who put up a fake speed camera made from a wooden bird box[6] at an accident blackspot said there had been no crashes outside his property since installing it.
