Live A5 updates as road closed after van hits the back of lorry

Part of a major route in Leicestershire[1] was closed after a van hit the back of a lorry this afternoon. The southbound carriageway of the A5 near to Smockington Hollow was closed, a spokesperson from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said.

Leicestershire Police said in an update: “14:10 | ROAD CLOSURE IN PLACE A5 – SMOCKINGTON HOLLOW Please be advised that there is currently a road closure in place on the A5 near to Smockington Hollow. This is due to a road traffic incident.”

A fire service spokesperson said a crew from Lutterworth discovered the incident while returning to their station. Police urged drivers to find alternative routes. Smockington Hollow sits to the south of Burbage and Hinckley.
