LIVE: M6 traffic with HOUR delays after lorry strikes bridge – latest updates

There are long delays on a stretch of the M6 this morning after a crash.

According to National Highways, a lorry has struck an overbridge on the southbound side of the motorway. Two lanes of a stretch of the motorway in Cheshire are now shut.

The lanes are closed between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 16 for Crewe. There are currently delays of around an hour, with traffic queuing for around five miles.

In a post on X at around 5.25am, National Highways said: “3 lanes (of 4) are closed on the #M6 southbound in #Cheshire between J17 (#Sandbach) and J16 (#Crewe) due to a collision involving a lorry which has struck an overbridge.

“Initial assessment are being made. Recovery is being arranged. Updates to follow.”

An update at 6.45am added: “We’ve reopened a lane on the #M6 southbound between J17 #Sandbach and J16 #Crewe following the collision and bridge strike. 2 (of 4) lanes closed.

“Delays of up to 1 hour, approx. 5 miles of congestion.”
