Live traffic updates as M1 route remains closed
The M1 is closed in one direction due to the death of a man who was hit by lorry. The southbound route is closed between J22 for Markfield and J21A for Leicester.
Forest Road in Markfield, which goes over the M1, is also closed Leicestershire Police said. National Highways said the southbound closure is expected to be in place throughout the rest of the morning.
The incident was first reported by Leicestershire Police at 3:50am. All trapped traffic from within the closure has been released, traffic tracker INRIX reported.
The northbound route has now been reopened. However National Highways said long delays remain.
