M1 J21 and J22 live closure updates as man dies after being hit by lorry
A section of the M1 has been closed after a man was hit by a lorry in Leicestershire. The southbound carriageway remains shut between junction 21A for Leicester and J22 for Markfield[1] this morning (Friday, March 22).
Leicestershire Police[2] said the collision involved a pedestrian and an HGV on the southbound carriageway just before 3.20am. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was also reported that prior to the collision the man was on the bridge in Forest Road and Stoney Lane, Markfield. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Officers are in the early stage of their investigation and are looking to speak to anyone who may have seen the man standing over the bridge or witnessed the incident.
“Anyone who was driving past junction 22 of the M1 is also asked to check their dash cam for any footage that may assist with the investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or via www.leics.police.uk quoting incident 61 of 22 March.” The northbound carriageway reopened at around 8.20am.
