M1 traffic live: Lorry fire between J29 Chesterfield and J29a Markham Vale
Three lanes of the M1 have been closed as fire crews battle a lorry fire which has caused long delays. The HGV fire[1] between J29 Chesterfield[2] and J29a Markham Vale was first reported by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service just before 7am on Thursday, March 28.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, posting to X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “We currently have crews from Staveley, Bolsover and Buxton along with crews from Notts Fire in attendance at a vehicle fire on M1 Northbound between Junction 29 and 29A. Lane closures are in place, which may affect journey times this morning.”
National Highways, posting to X, said: “Three lanes (of four) are closed on the #M1 northbound between J29 Chesterfield and J29a Markham Vale due to an HGV fire. There is approx. 5 miles of congestion on approach which is adding about half an hour to normal journey time.”
