M4 crash: Police witness appeal after person dies in car and lorry crash
Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal crash on the M4 which closed the motorway for more than seven hours. One person died and four others were taken to hospital following the collision between a lorry and a car.
The crash took place between junction 18 for Bath and junction 19 for Bristol[1] at around 1pm. Officers from Avon & Somerset Police, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, South West Ambulance Service and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity were all sent to the scene.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that one person died in the collision.[2] Four people were taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening or life changing.
Investigating officers from Avon and Somerset Police are now appealing for information on the crash. They are keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened or who has relevant dashcam footage.
A spokesperson said: “Despite the best efforts of emergency services, one person sadly died at the scene. Our thoughts are with their family during this difficult time, they are being offered support by a specialist family liaison officer.
“The motorway was closed in both directions to allow emergency services to respond. Both carriageways have now been reopened. We would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we have carried necessary investigative work.
“If you witnessed the collision, or have any information or relevant footage which could aid our investigation, please call us. If you can help, please call 101[5] and give the call handler the reference number 5224077629, or complete our online appeals form[6].”
