M5 crash driver rescued from overturned lorry as delays hit 90 minutes
A lorry driver was pulled to safety after his lorry overturned on the M5 in Gloucestershire today (Monday, March 18). The incident has happened on the northbound carriageway near to junction nine for Tewkesbury.
The lorry rolled on to its side and ended up on the hard shoulder. No injuries have been caused in the crash.
The motorway had to be closed while the driver was rescued from the stricken vehicle. Long delays are reported on the motorway.
Gloucestershire police said: “Emergency services are at the scene of a non-injury collision on the M5 northbound carriageway near to junction 9. A lorry has rolled on its side & is on the hard shoulder.
“The carriageway was closed while work took place to safely free the driver – one lane has been reopened.”
Traffic and travel site Inrix said at 1..40pm: “Severe delays and one lane closed due to overturned lorry, recovery work and spillage of diesel on M5 Northbound from J10 A4019 (Cheltenham) to J9 A46 (Tewkesbury). Congestion to J11 (Gloucester / Golden Valley Bypass) and routes through Coombe Hill. Traffic was held again around 12:45.”
