M8 West Lothian drivers warned of delays as police close lane after four-car smash

One lane of the busy West Lothian[1] M8 carriageway is currently closed following a four-car pile-up.

Emergency services have closed the outside lane of the westbound carriageway[2] at junction 3a near Bathgate, with police[3] and trunk road incident support at the scene.

Live traffic images show several badly smashed cars at the side of the road with passengers standing by the central reservation with the lane cordoned off. A damaged van and two smashed cars can be seen parked at the side of the road with a fourth in the distance.

It is understood delays of around 30 minutes are to be expected in the area as rush hour approaches. According to Traffic Scotland, four vehicles were involved in the collision at around 4pm on Tuesday, March 26.

Informing motorists on X, they said: “NEW: 16:02 M8 – Junction 3a (Westbound). Delay times of approx. 32 minutes due to a four vehicle collision with the outside lane CLOSED. Police are on the scene. Please take care in the area.”
