Man dies after driving wrong way down M62 motorway and smashing his Audi into Amazon lorry

  • West Yorkshire Police want anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward
  • It happened close to Junction 29 on the M62 at 3:30am this morning  

A man has died after driving the wrong way down the M62 motorway.

The unidentified man was driving his white Audi A3 against the flow of traffic at around 3:30am this morning, before colliding with an Amazon lorry. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene close to Junction 29, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

The M62 Eastbound was closed for several hours today while accident investigation work is ongoing.

West Yorkshire Police[2] have requested that anyone who witnessed the crash or may have video footage to come forward.

A police spokesperson said: ‘The male occupant of the Audi was confirmed dead at the scene a short time later.

‘A road closure is in place while collision investigators establish exactly what happened.

‘Officers from the Major Collision Enquiry Team are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the manner of driving of the Audi prior to the collision.

‘Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, the circumstances leading up to it or who may have video footage is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police by calling 101 or go online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat quoting reference 231 of 9/3.’
