Man dies in M48 crash

A man has died following a crash on the M48. The motorway was closed by police in all directions after a police incident was declared following a collision earlier this afternoon.

The man from Chepstow, understood to be 77, was declared deceased at the scene. Police said his next of kin have been informed. They also confirmed the road will remain closed while their investigation is under way.

The crash happened at around 2pm on the M48 Westbound. It led to the motorway being closed from J2 at A466 Wye Valley Link Road near Chepstow up to J23 on the M4.

A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: “We received a report of a road traffic collision on the M48 on Saturday 16 March at around 2pm. Officers attended and the collision involved a white transit van.”

They added: “The driver, a 77-year-old man from Chepstow, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. Anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to call 101 or direct message us on social media, quoting log reference 2400087603.”
