Oil spillage causes two-hour delays on Bedfordshire M1

A multi-vehicle collision that caused an oil spillage on the M1 has left drivers facing delays of up to two hours.

National Highways said[1] the incident happened on the M1 northbound between junction 12 at Toddington and junction 13 at Brogborough in Bedfordshire.

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.

In a message posted on X[2], Highways East said lanes one and two would be closed and required resurfacing.

The incident was reported at 17:22 GMT after a collision caused a HGV to rupture its fuel tank, which led to a "significant" amount of diesel spilling over about 100m, across lanes one and two of the carriageway.

National Highways confirmed there had been no injuries from the collision.
