TWO motorists have been fined hundreds of pounds by the courts for driving at less than 70mph on the motorway.
The separate cases of David Berry and Stephanie Skelly were both heard recently before Manchester Magistrates' Court.
They both faced charges of exceeding a variable speed limit on the motorway caught by an automatic camera device.
Berry, aged 49 and of Pocket Nook Lane in Lowton, was driving a Ford Transit van on the M62 westbound on June 17 last year.
Between junctions 11 for Birchwood and 10 for the M6 at Croft Interchange, he drove at 62mph – in excess of the 50mph speed limit in force at the time.
The case was found proved by way of a single justice procedure and he was ordered to pay a total of £398.
This is broken down into a fine of £220, surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and court costs of £90.
In addition, magistrates also endorsed his driving record with three penalty points.
Skelly, aged 42 and of Fairbrother Crescent in Orford, was caught on the M60 heading anti-clockwise on June 16.
She travelled in an Audi TT at 60mph at junction 13 for Worsley, while the speed limit at the time was 50mph.
The case was found proved by single justice procedure and she was ordered to pay £706, including a fine of £440, victim surcharge of £176 and court costs of £90.
Moreover, her driving record was endorsed with four penalty points.
