Reports of person hit by vehicle with main road cordoned off and air ambulance scrambled to scene

A person was reportedly hit by a vehicle on a main road in Rochdale[1] on Wednesday (March 6), with a police cordon put in place and an air ambulance scrambled to the scene.

Emergency services descended on Halifax Road, near Littleborough[2], amid reports of a collision shortly before 5pm. The main road was taped off for a number of hours amid investigations.

Witnesses reported that a person had been struck by a vehicle. Greater Manchester Police[3] are yet to confirm the details surrounding the incident.

Throughout Wednesday evening, officers from GMP were seen conducting enquiries at the scene as collision investigation work continued. Torches were shone beneath a vehicle at the scene as the road was also inspected.

The road was blocked off in both directions for a number of hours following the crash, with a cordon in place between Wardle Road and Birch Road, north of Rochdale town centre.

An update from live traffic service Inrix, that reported the collision shortly before 5pm, said: “A58 Halifax Road in both directions blocked due to accident investigation work between Wardle Road and Birch Road.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more details.
