Two men killed in crash on A5 near Leicestershire and Warwickshire border
Two men were killed after a car crashed into a parked lorry. The A5 was shut overnight[1] (March 26) close to the Leicestershire and Warwickshire border after police were called to the scene[2] on the southbound carriageway.
The grey Audi S4 crashed into the lorry which was parked in a layby close to the road’s junction with the B4114 at around 8.20pm. Emergency services were called to the scene where the occupants of the car, two men, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The lorry driver was not injured. The A5 was closed in both directions between the M69[3] and the A4303 near Magna Park[4] while investigations by Leicestershire and Warwickshire Police took place.
National Highways East Midlands[6] diverted drivers via local routes. The road was opened shortly before 8am this morning. Leicestershire Police[7] have opened an investigation into the incident.
Detective Constable Maddie Hayes, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Our investigation into this collision is continuing and I’m appealing for anyone who can help to get in touch.
“I’m particularly keen to speak to any motorists who were in the area and have a dashcam in their vehicle or who saw the collision occur. I’d also like to speak to anyone who saw the Audi on the A5 prior to it happening. Anything you can tell us, no matter how insignificant you think it is, could assist us.”
You can pass on information by calling the force on 101 and quoting incident 638 of 26 March.
