Four people in hospital after ‘serious’ three-vehicle collision in Derbyshire village

Derbyshire police have shared more details following a serious three-vehicle collision in a Derbyshire[1] village. Officers were first called to the scene on A6005 Nottingham Road in Borrowash[2] at around 9.15am on Wednesday, April 10, after reports of a crash in the village.

The road, which runs through Borrowash, was closed at the junctions with Station Road and Victoria Avenue. Derbyshire police[3] said that the closure was likely to remain in place for some time as investigation work was carried out by officers.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Local diversions are in place, but please avoid the area and take alternative routes where possible. A further update will be issued once the road has re-opened. No further information is available at this time.” The road had reopened by around 3.15pm on Wednesday.

Following the six-hour closure, Derbyshire police released an update, stating that four people had been sent to hospital, with two of them “seriously injured”. A spokesperson said: “Nottingham Road in Borrowash has now re-opened after an earlier closure for several hours.

“This follows a serious three-vehicle collision which we were called to at around 9.15am this morning. Four people have been taken to hospital and two are said to have serious injuries.”

The crash is one of a few incidents over the last few days that caused lengthy road closures in the county. On Monday, a stretch of the A515 was closed for six hours near Ashbourne[5] due to an articulated lorry which had gone into a soft verge at the side of the road and was leaning on a wall.

Less than 24 hours later, a different stretch of the A515 was closed[6] when two people became trapped after a VW Polo car they were travelling in crashed into a telegraph pole, also closing the road for more than six hours.
