A42 to remain closed for some time

National Highways have confirmed that a HGV leaving the carriageway is the reason for the closure of the A42 this afternoon. The extent of the incident is unclear at this stage, but has forced the closure of the northbound carriageway.

It is thought the closure will be in place for some time.

National Highways said: “The A42 is now closed northbound between J11 (Appleby Magna) and J12 (Ashby-de-la-Zouch) due to a HGV which has left the carriageway.

“Due to the extent of the recovery, the road will remain closed until recovery is complete. Recovery are now working on scene.”
